THE TWELVE TABLETS (TABLES) The plebeians won the right to have written laws. This was a victory (win) for the plebeians. The patrician officials often interpreted the law to suit themselves. In 451 B.C., a group of 10 officials began writing down Rome’s laws. The laws were carved on twelve tablets, and hung in the Forum (political center). The Twelve Tablets established the idea that all free citizens had a right to the protection of the law.
