Lesson 1: The Physical Machine By the end of the lesson you will: • Know the names and functions of the physical components that make up a computer • Become comfortable booting (turning on), logging in, and shutting down the computer • Become comfortable with the movement of the mouse pointer and the functions of its buttons
Lesson 2: The Windows Interface By the end of the lesson you will: • Know how to navigate through windows (Single Click and double-click, drag, open, close, minimize, maximize, scroll, resize) • Understand the vocabulary Icon, window, click, menu, select, minimize, maximize, drag, scroll • Learn a basic understanding of how to use Paint and its many tools • Know how to use the Start Menu and Quick Launch Toolbar

Lesson 3: Basic Utilities By the end of the lesson you will: • Know how to find and use the Calculator • Know how to set the system Clock • Know how to find and set the Display Preferences • Know how to find and change the Sound Menu
Lesson 4: Intro to Typing By the end of the lesson you will: • Know how to find, open, and log-in to Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor • Know how to navigate through the Typing Tutor in order to be able to practice typing on your own. • Know your “home row” and begin to practice touch typing.
Lesson 5: Microsoft Word Basics By the end of the lesson you will know how to: • Enter text using the keyboard • Navigate by Arrow Keys • Use the Del vs. Backspace or visa versa • Use the undo function (keyboard and menu) • Justify Text • Highlight text using the mouse • Cut and paste using menus • Check Spelling and Grammar • Save a document

Lesson 7: Microsoft Word Tables By the end of the lesson you will: • Create a table of any size using the icons from the toolbar and from the Table menu • Move from cell to cell • Resize table cells • Merge Cells • Insert New Rows and Columns using menus and tab key • Adjust Cell Alignment and Text Justification within cells • Use the Print Preview function
