  11. The Real Feudal System • Christendom divided into large lands • Called fiefs • Fiefs also called feuda • Kings had massive amount of land • Kings had lots of lords who swore fealty to them • Lords had vassals who swore fealty to them • Peasants were around only to work the fields Rome falls

  13. A Uniting Force • After the fall of the Roman Empire, there was severe political fragmentation • One force united Europe: The Roman Catholic Church • From 500 to 1000, there was amazing growth in the power of the church Power of the church
