Overview of IAEA CRP Systems Description Report4th Research Coordination Meeting of the IAEACRP on Natural Circulation Phenomena, Modeling and Reliability of Passive Systems that Utilize Natural Circulation Brian G. Woods Roy K. Nelson Jose N. Reyes, Jr. September 10-13, 2007 IAEA, Vienna, Austria
Introduction • Objective was to develop a description of the natural circulation based passive safety systems implemented in the designs being studied by the CRP participants • CRP Participants have provided IAEA with brief descriptions of their designs. • First Draft presented at 2005 RCM • Revised Draft at 2006 RCM
Actions from 2006 RCM • Systems Description Review: • CSI should review System Descriptions (Annexes from their Country) in the draft TECDOC, and, where necessary, provide OSU with a write-up of integrated system response to example transient – using the AP1000 description in Annex 2 of the existing draft TECDOC document as example for the system response example write-up) by the end of October 2006 • Result: • All review comments have been received and incorporated.
Actions from 2006 RCM • Super-Critical Water Reactors: • AECL (Khartabil) to prepare SCWR Introduction and Subsection on P-T SCWR; • PSI to prepare Subsection on HPLWR – provide to OSU by end of October. • IAEA will check with Japan to ask if they wish to also contribute a sub-section for their concept(s). • IAEA will also contact KAERI (Mr. Chung) who will investigate whether KAERI wishes to contribute a description of the KAERI SCR. • Results: • No Supercritical Water Reactor Descriptions submitted • ACR-1000 from AECL was added in its place
Actions from 2006 RCM • ESBWR Description: • K. Welter to check with Purdue – provide ESBWR description – end of October – or latest end of January (cut – off date for changes to draft TECDOC) • Results: • ESBWR Annex submitted and incorporated
Actions from 2006 RCM • Report Introduction: • OSU – refer to phenomena in introduction, and add column in existing table connecting systems to phenomena • Results: • Added 1 Table cross-listing phenomena to the individual reactor systems • Added 1 Table to cross-list phenomena to passive safety systems.
Actions from 2006 RCM • Document Review: • All CSIs to provide comments on document to OSU by end of October • OSU to complete revised document by end of November and provide Word Version to IAEA for review by Review Committee • Review Committee (Fil, D’Auria, Saha, Khartabil) to review document and comment by end of January – each Review Committee Member to provide OSU with comments and cc to Aksan and Cleveland • Results: • IAEA issues draft report and phenomena definitions to D‘Auria, Aksan, Saha, in December 2006. • IAEA issues request for comments on Phenomena Cross-listing Tables, March 2007 • Comments incorporated • Also Added IRIS- Westinghouse
Revised Contents of Draft Report • Systems Description Report
Conclusions • Comments from CSIs have been received and incorporated. • Three new Annexes added since 3rd RCM: • ESBWR • ACR-1000 • IRIS • Tables Cross-listing Phenomena to Reactors Systems and Passive Safety Systems added. • Actions for Final Report?
