Brief History Teacher Education Program at the College of Southern Idaho has undergone significant changes • Developed in 1968 • Joined with Social Science Department in 1977 • Received the Albertson’s grant “Recreating Teacher Education” from 1999-2004, hiring more Professors • ISU Elementary Education program offered atCSI in 1999 • Split from the Social Science Department, and joined with Physical Education in 2005 • From four full-time faculty members to three in 2013 • Split from the Physical Education Department in 2014
Mission The Teacher Education Program (TEP) at the College of Southern Idaho seeks to introduce students to the teaching profession by providing them with a quality educational experience. Students complete courses from the CSI general education core as well as specific program-required courses. Additionally, the TEP provides a wide variety of professional development opportunities to in-service educators, community members, and CSI employees.
Goals • Recruit a diverse population • Retain students • Provide a high-quality program that parallels Idaho universities/colleges • Collaborate with K-12 and college/university colleagues
