Guru Amar Das Ji- Epitome of Sewa and Nimarta • Served Guru Angad Dev Ji, although he was his 25 years elder to him and was from his in-laws side. • Totally surendered himself to Guru’s Hukam. • Did very hard physical sewa continuously, non-stop for 12 years. • Guru Angad Dev Ji passed on Guruship to him at the age of 73, at Khadur Sahib. • After that, he shifted to Goindwal Sahib.
Guru Amar Das Ji- Epitome of Sewa and Nimarta • Baba Dattu was the younger son of second Guru, Guru Angad Dev Ji. • After Guru Amar Das Ji was given GurGaddi, DattuJi became very upset. • DatuJi proclaimed himself as Guru at Khadur following Guru Angad’sJoti Jot. • He was so jealous of Guru Amar Das that he, with a small group of his supporters, proceeded to Goindwal to confront the Guru. • Upon seeing Guru Amar Das seated on takhat surrounded by sikhsangat, he said, "You were a mere menial servant of the house until yesterday; how dare you style yourself as the Guru?". • At that point, Datu kicked the aged Guru Ji so hard that he fell to the floor. Taking the seat of the Guru Ji, he then proclaimed himself Guru to the assembly of sikhs and told him to quit Goindval • Guru Amar Das Ji calmed the sangat and in his nimarta turned round, grasped Datu's foot and caressing it said, "Pardon me, my Guru Ji's son ! Let me massage your tender foot as it may have been hurt by my hard aged bones." • Guru Amar Das quietly left for his native place Basarke. Next morning, Datu and his men collected all valuables. He had his eyes especially on Guru AmarDas's mare, but it would not let him mount it. In his effort to control it, he injured his leg. • As he was returning to Khadur Sahib, he was looted and thrashed by robbers. Datu limped back to Khadur empty handed. • After suffering for many years, he asked for Guru Arjan’s blessings and was forgiven.
