In your binder under “vocabulary” define characterization Characterization: the methods a writer used to reveal character • the character’s appearance • what the character says and does • what other’s say about the character
Good Grief Charlie Brown • What is Charlie Brown’s appearance? • What are some things Charlie Brown says or does? • What do other’s say about Charlie Brown?
Quickwrite (p. 18) • On page 18, write a description of how you would spend $100.00 you found on the street. • What do you think your choices reveal about you? • What might you say or do? • What would other’s say about your choices? • What are some adjectives others might use to describe your choices • Guess what???? You just completed a characterization of yourself! WoooHoooo!
A Hundred Bucks of Happy • Take notes in the “my notes” section about the character in the story. • What is their appearance • What does the character say and do • What would others say about this character • What are some adjectives we would use to describe this character
Shaded areas • The shaded areas are the choices the character makes • The highlight on the first page shows the character’s first choice: to scoop up the money and walk away
Wrap up • Has anyone had this happen to them? • Tell me about a time when you had to make a decision about sharing something that had happened to you. • What decisions have been made (pg. 19-22) • What are some notes you took in the “my notes” section • Summarize the story up to page 22 • Predict! What in the world is gonna happen next?
