Focus Groups • give members a forum to interact with and share scholarship activities, program materials, and resources at and between PAC-TE conferences • communicate via PAC-TE online forums • contribute to PAC-TE e-publications • forward proposals to the PAC-TE fall conference planning committees to sponsor conference sessions • work with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to expand PAC-TE professional development and networking.

PAC-TE’s History • Established 1982 • From three professional organizations • PA Association of Liberal Arts Colleges for the Advancement of Teaching (PALACAT) • PA Association of Teacher Educators (PATE) • PA Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (PACTE) • ATE and AACTE State Unit • ATE Delegate Assembly and Council of Unit Presidents representation • AACTE Advisory Council of State Representatives representation
PAC-TE’s Purpose PAC-TE is dedicated to providing strong advocacy and support for professional educator preparation within the commonwealth by: • promoting quality programs of professional educator preparation; • working with professional colleagues who are dedicated to the concept of education for all children and youth; • collaborating with professionals who believe that the quality of education depends upon the effectiveness of those who teach and support teaching; • advocating the improvement of professional educator performance and professional educator preparation programs; • providing opportunities for the individual professional growth of all persons who are concerned with professional educator preparation; and • serving various councils and committees of national, state, and local government and professional associations in the ongoing effort to improve the professional status and image of professional educator preparation.
PAC-TE as THE Voice for Teacher Preparation in Pennsylvania PAC-TE influences teacher education by: • providing a variety of forums for discussion of issues that are of concern to all who are engaged in professional educator preparation; • serving as a unified, collective voice for professional educator preparation in Pennsylvania; • facilitating and coordinating the development of teacher education associations and the individual professional development of teacher educators and other professional educators; and • maintaining its role as one of the most active and supportive state affiliates of ATE and AACTE.

Assuring and Sustaining Excellence in Quality Teacher Preparation • In 2011 the PAC-TE Government Relations Committee, after collecting input from members, developed published, and distributed to key Pennsylvania stakeholders in teacher preparation a full color brochure outlining core beliefs and six keys to assuring and sustaining quality teacher preparation. • Brochure may be downloaded from the web site or requested from the Executive Director • Brochure is in TEA packets.
Keystone Consortium of Educational Associations • The KCEA, a collaborative effort among 12 education-related associations within the Commonwealth, as coordinated by PAC-TE, released its “Talking Points” document at a media conference on April 16, 2013. • Since then the document has also been distributed to newspapers around the state, presented to the PA State Board of Education, and sent with cover letters to: • Governor Corbett • Secretaries of Education Tomalis and Harner • Pennsylvania Department of Education leaders • members of the PA House and Senate Education Committees • announces consensus among the associations as to basic policies and practices which must be in place for the Commonwealth’s students to have the best opportunities and support for learning • The three elements around which this group of educational professionals has found consensus are: • The Narrowing of the Curriculum and Its Implication on the Whole Child • The Importance of Ongoing, Meaningful Professional Development for all PreK-16 Educators • Well-designed Student and Professional Educator Assessment and Evaluation Systems • Hopefully the “Talking Points” document will be the base for collaborative development and implementation by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, State Board of Education, legislature, and educational associations to enhance the quality of education provided for all Pennsylvania students

Strategic Plan Goals 2014-2016 • establish and implement policy, annual calendar, roles, and procedures for PAC-TE’s ongoing advocacy efforts in support of its mission • use alternative delivery formats to expand and extend PAC-TE’s professional development offerings and networking opportunities • expand PAC-TE membership and membership involvement in PAC-TE • increase PAC-TE income through revenue sources beyond membership and conference registration, consistent with its mission • collaborate with other educational associations in providing information and conducting advocacy activities in support of PAC-TE’s mission

Proposal Review • Electronic blind review process • Committee members serve on teams of at least three. • Reviewers individually use a rubric to evaluate proposals and submit their ratings to the Executive Director. • When consensus is not determined, the team meets via phone or in person to discuss the proposal.
Proposal Review Criteria Elimination if the summary -- • exceeds 200 words, OR • includes presenter names, institutions, partner organizations or school entities
Submission and Acceptance Time Line • Proposal Submission by March 1 • Acceptance/rejection notice by May 1 • Presenters must register by September 1
