  2. Outline • Above & Beyond are a British/Finnish trance music group formed in 2000 and consists of the members Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and PaavoSiljamäki. The trio are popular in the electronic dance music scene for their forward-thinking uplifting trance productions and collaborations with renowned vocalists. They manage their own record label, Anjunabeats, which releases trance & progressive music, and they also host their own weekly radio show, Trance Around the World.

  3. Anjunabeats • Anjunabeats-British Record label formed when Jono Grant and PaavoSiljamaki met at the university of Westminster and discovered a love for electronic music • Producers- Jonathan ‘Jono’ Grant/PaavoSiljamaki-experienced musicians • Music-Trance • Joined by Tony Mcguinness to form Above and Beyond. Formed in 2000. • They began their DJ-ing career in 2002 in Tokyo performing to 8,000 people-won BBC radio 1s essential mix of the year

  4. Anjunadeep • Sub-label-Anjunadeep set up in 2005-allows more diversity as aimed at releases that don’t fit under the main labels focus trance. It releases progressive trance and house records, as opposed to the primarily uplifting, big-room trance of its parent label.

  5. Information • Above and beyond currently fifth in the DJ annual poll (highest of brits) • Entranced 8,000 in Beirut with their first full live show • One of the most successful trance acts of the 2000’s • As a DJ act, Above & Beyond made their debut in 2002 and steadily worked their way up into the Top Ten of the much-touted DJ Mag Top 100 poll.

  6. Profiles-Jonathan Grant • Also known as: Jono Grant, Grant, J.Grant • Origin: England • Labels: Anjunabeats • Earliest mainstream recognition of Jono was when he was offered to remix the Strike "You Sure Do" in 1999. "Jono's Big Mix" became the lead mix of the re-release and was playlisted on Kiss FM's A-list. This was produced during study for his degree in Commercial Music at the University of Westminster, where he also developed his sound design skills working freelance programming sounds for Yamaha's synthesisers. It was also at the University of Westminster that he met PaavoSiljamaki, with whom he established the now legendary Anjunabeats record label. • Jono Grant first discovered dance music when he borrowed his brother James’s cassette of Paul Oakenfold’s classic Goa mix – and fell in love with its sweeping melodrama. Already training as a classical pianist and guitarist, he was inspired him to build his own studio, taking on part time jobs to fund his equipment. “I managed to save up enough money from mowing the lawn to buy a drum machine,” he laughs. When he arrived at London’s University of Westminster, he had a small, yet compact studio. His first production was a remix of Strike’s Top Five hit ‘U Sure Do’ • Jono is an effortless musician-fearless and always brings out a good mood in the band

  7. Profiles-PaavoSiljamaki • Also Known As: P.O.S., Silky-Mac, Cybersonic, Pump2Funk • Born: April 25, 1977 (1977-04-25) (age 33) • Origin: Finland • Genres: Electronica/Trance • Occupations: Trance DJ, Trance Producer • Labels: Anjunabeats • Years Active-1990-Present • He composed his first musical when he was 15 years old, and then moved to Helsinki to attend Sibelius Lukio: Finland's leading music high school. After some years of producing dance music in Finland, he moved to the UK to study music business at the University of Westminster. Having a Garage-music single already released (under the guise 'Silky-mac') before meeting a fellow named Jono Grant at University which lead to the formation of the name Anjunabeats (as an artist, then adapted as a label name) and, ultimately, Above & Beyond (with Tony McGuiness). Paavo's solo trance capability was brought out when he was under heavy inspiration by summer parties at his college and one day he decided to produce a track of his own at his place on a G4 Powerbook. Paavo rolled out his debut single, "Remember (Summer Sun)". • Paavo is the heart and soul of the band- brings out the passion

  8. Tony McGuinness • Also known as: Tony McGuinness, T. McGuinness • Born: April 23, 1969 (1969-04-23) (age 41) • Label: Anjunabeats • Tony McGuinness played guitar (Fender Jazzmaster) with English indie band Sad Lovers & Giants, with whom he released five albums. • Towards the end of his time with SL&G, McGuinness was also a highly successful marketing director for Warner Music Group, winning awards for his campaigns for Madonna, SEAL, Simply Red and Mike Oldfield. While working at Warners, McGuinness shifted away from alternative rock towards electronic dance music. He worked as A&R for a number of dance artists, including William Orbit and Hysteric Ego, also spending a summer as their Podium Dancer- but for years previously was the guitarist/songwriter of cult indie band Sad Lovers & Giants. Asked to organize a remix of Chakra’s ‘Home’ in 2000, he joined together with Jono Grant and PaavoSiljamaki - and Above & Beyond was born. “By coincidence we ended up tthree individuals with complimentary and different talents into the mix,” says Tony.

  9. Tony McGuinness • Tony McGuinness and his brother Liam teamed up to create electronic dance music under the alias Nitromethane since the early 2000s. While still working at Warner, Tony was asked to remix Chakra's "Home" by an A&R colleague. • Tony approached Anjunabeats (Jono Grant and PaavoSiljamäki) to work on the remix together. The result, their remix of "Home", was an instant hit, ruling the dance floors and topping the dance charts for many weeks. The collaboration led to the creation of Above & Beyond, consisting of McGuinness, Grant, and Siljamäki. • but for years previously was the guitarist/songwriter of cult indie band Sad Lovers & Giants.
