The Issue with Current Forensics Training • There have been no comprehensive, systematic efforts to educate Texas law enforcement and criminal justice professionals on the proper collection, preservation, analysis, presentation and judgment of evidence. Lack of adequatetraining leads to: Better science leads to better justice for all.

  3. The SOLUTION: Texas Forensic Science Academy • The Texas Forensic Science Academy (TFSA) will provide statewide training and education to Texas justice system personnel in proper crime scene investigation, evidence collection/preservation, courtroom presentation and application. Increased training results in: Better science leads to better justice for all. • Properly collected/ preserved evidence • Proper arrest OR exoneration supported by convincing evidence • Reduction in mistrials/ exonerations saving millions in state tax dollars • Increased accuracy and equity in the Texas legal system.

  4. TFSA Technical Training Certificate Programs Forensic Technician Better science leads to better justice for all. Forensic Investigator I & II Major Crimes Investigator TFSA Target Audience: • Training targeted to law enforcement and non-commissioned personnel assigned to investigate/process crime scenes and evidence. • Forensic Seminars will be offered to Judges and Attorneys. The TFSA is not pre-employment training.

  5. TFSA Technical Training Certificate Programs Forensic Technician: 80 hours • Crime Scene Investigation • Latent Processing Better science leads to better justice for all.

  6. TFSA Technical Training Certificate Programs Forensic Investigator I: 200 hours • Basic criminal investigation • Crime scene investigation • Latent Print Processing • Courtroom Testimony • Forensic Photography I Better science leads to better justice for all.

  7. TFSA Technical Training Certificate Programs Forensic Investigator II: 200 hours • Bloodstain pattern analysis • Processing evidence of violent crime • Death investigation • Skeletal death investigation • Forensic Photography II Better science leads to better justice for all.

  8. TFSA Technical Training Certificate Programs Major Crimes Investigator: 200 hours • Basic Criminal Investigation • Forensic Photography I • Courtroom Testimony • Death Investigation • One TEEX Elective Course (40 hour min.) Better science leads to better justice for all.
