INTRODUCTION AVS 2104 : AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY • In aviation industry, the only thing that matter is SAFETY. • Despite of making profit, aviation world will still prioritize the level of safety in the first place. • “No safety, no guarantee”. • Aviation industry needs to instill “trust value” inside passengers feeling to attract them to use airlines.
INTRODUCTION AVS 2104 : AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY • While the elimination of accidents would be desirable, a 100% safety rate is an unachievable goal. • Failures and errors will occur, in spite of the best efforts to avoid them. “Prevention is better than cure”

SAFETY & SECURITY AVS 2104 : AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY • Safetyis a condition, state or situationin which a person feel safe and free from any threat or danger. • Meanwhile, security is a procedure or action takento ensure safety of a person. • Example: You’ll feel safe in a car when you lock your doors. Locking your doors means that you take security measures.
SAFETY & SECURITY AVS 2104 : AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY • You’ll feel safe in your house during night by locking doors. Locking doors is the action taken to avoid your house from being entered by unknown people. • When you walk alone, you can be attack by unknown person. As a way to overcome this threat, you’ll never walk alone and ask somebody to company you.

SAFETY & SECURITY AVS 2104 : AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY • Aviation Security exists to prevent criminal activity on aircraft and in airport. • Criminal activity includes acts such as hijacking (air piracy), damaging or destroying aircraft and nearby areas with bombs, and assaulting passengers and aviation employees.
SAFETY & SECURITY AVS 2104 : AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY • On September 11, 2001, when terrorists hijacked four U.S. airliners and crashed three of them into buildings and one into the ground, causing the death of thousands. • This unprecedented attack resulted in an immediate and drastic heightening of air transportation security.
THE NEED OF AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY AVS 2104 : AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY • Meet requirement from International Civil Aviation Organization. ICAO – Annex 17. • Provide safety so that people will feel comfortable and secure. • Attract more people to use airlines. • Prevent any danger or harm to people (passenger). • Smoothen the airport system. • Avoid illegal things. GROUP DISCUSSION: ROLE PLAY AVS 2104 : AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY • 5 GROUP MEMBERS • 2/3 of you will be tourists from any country. • 2 of you will the enforcement personnel. • 1 of you will be the Airport manager.
GROUP DISCUSSION: ROLE PLAY AVS 2104 : AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY • Situation: • Tourists bring things that could create possible threat to other visitors. (but at the same time they are so innocent and don’t know anything about it). • They were caught by the enforcement officers and fought with them claiming that they are innocent. • The officers bring them to the manager. • Then manager explain about the aviation safety and security. • Are the tourists guilty of bringing dangerous goods? Or are they guilty?
ROLE PLAY AVS 2104 : AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY Try to make it as interesting as you can. It is not necessarily must a serious play. Make it fun, crazy and enjoyable but at the same time you learn something.
CONCLUSION AVS 2104 : AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY • Safety is the STATE in which the RISK OF HARMto persons or of property damage IS REDUCED TO, and MAINTAINED AT OR BELOW, AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL through a continuing process of hazard identification and risk management. • The PROCESS of hazard identification and risk management is a SECURITY measurement.
