This program will NOT expand into a Major in Communication Studies.

Upon referral of Maria Gabriel, SAO the UGPDs will meet with you during their add/drop and regular office hours – a PINK referral slips is required Their primary focus is on academic integrity, study planning, graduate school preparation and career planning.

AHCS I Faculty Requirements I Programs I Policies I Resources & Opportunities I Important Information Role of the Student Affairs Officer FIRST STOP SHOP Advises students with course selection, program objectives, the rules and regulations related to our unit and provides general departmental information Verifies students’ records and eligibility for graduation Provides information regarding student services and resources available Provides permit overrides when required Advises students regarding Museum Internships, ARIA, CREPUQ, Study Away and Exchange Programs Inform students of upcoming events including scholarship opportunities Oversees Orientation, Open House, Freshman Fair, Internship Sessions and Degree Planning Sessions Holds Regular Office hours by appointment ONLY and Drop Ins on a weekly basis

The Faculty Advisors are located in Dawson Hall. They are experts in the rules, regulations, and requirements pertaining to specific degree programs related to our Faculty. Provide guidance on program selection, course registration, credit load, and deadlines Offer help managing academic situations during periods of personal, financial, or medical problems, by working with students to identify various possibilities and strategies for making informed decisions.

AHCS I Faculty Requirements I Programs I Policies I Resources & Opportunities I Important Information S/U Option S/U stands for Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory One elective course per term may be taken under this option to a maximum of 10% of the credits taken at McGill to fulfill your degree The decision MUST be taken before the Add/Drop period Courses under S/U will not count towards fulfilling program requirements Grade conversion: Satisfactory (S) – Grades A through C Unsatisfactory (U) – Grades D and F Courses under S/U will be excluded from the GPA calculation

The Minor in Art History is expandable and consists of a minimum of 18 credits. Required course (3 credits) ARTH 305 Methods in Art History 01 (prerequisites: one 200 level course in Art History or Permission of the Instructor) Complementary courses (15 credits) 3 credits in Art History at the 200 level 12 credits in Art History at the 300 level or above selected in consultation with the departmental advisor including 3 credits in Communication Studies is permitted

The Minor in Art History consists of 36 credits. Required course (3 credits) ARTH 305 Methods in Art History 01 (prerequisites: one 200 level course in Art History or Permission of the Instructor) Complementary courses (15 credits) Max. 12 credits at 200 level Min. 3 credits at 400 level (except ARTH 490) Credits must be selected from at least six of the eight AH course fields NOTE: Possible to take max. 6 credits in Communication Studies, counted towards complementary courses.

The Honors Program in Art History consists of 60 credits. Required course (9 credits) ARTH 305 – Methods in Art History ARTH 400 – Selected Methods in Art History ARTH 401 – Honours Research Paper Complementary courses (51 credits) Max. 15 credits at 200-level Min. 6 credits at 400-level Credits must be selected from at least six of the eight AH course fields 6 credits in a foreign language or in courses in one or two related disciplines (consult with the Honours advisor) Honours students must maintain a GPA of 3.30 in their program courses and a minimum of CGPA of 3.00 in general. Honours students must complete a minor concentration (18 credits) in another acadmic unit. NOTE: Possible to take max. 6 credits in Communication Studies, counted towards complementary courses.

AHCS I Faculty Requirements I Programs I Policies I Resources & Opportunities I Important Information 200 level courses and ARTH 305 - Art History Programs All students must complete a 200 level AH before registering for ARTH 305 which is our required course for all the Art History Programs. The 200 level course fulfills the prerequisite requirement for ARTH 305 and any upper level courses and it will count as one of your complementary courses Space is limited in our 200 level courses as you may have discovered so we now advise Year 3 & 4 students to refrain from taking intro level courses in their final year and to focus primarily on taking upper level AH courses.

ARTH 447 & COMS 497 - Independent Study Courses (3 credits) Students MUST develop their own project and scope for a faculty member to supervise their work before this course is approved. ARTH 490 - Museum Internship Course (3 credits) Counts toward the complementary course requirement but DOES NOT fulfill the 400 level requirement Interested students should consult Maria Gabriel and Anne Turner

AHCS I Faculty Requirements I Programs I Policies I Resources & Opportunities I Important Information Museum Internship Option - ARTH 490 3 credits may be granted for an internship and used towards their art history program Students have interned at museums, art galleries and artist run centres Must be a U2 or U3 student in good standing (2.7 CGPA or higher to qualify) Course is limited to Art History Students registered at McGill ONLY Interested students are invited to attend our Internship Information Session in September/October – TBA NOTE: There is NO such equivalent for student’ s pursuing the Minor in Communication Studies – non credit internships are available only.
