Ed Anderson • Dr. Ed Anderson was a professor of Mechanical Engineering at the U of MN for 23 years where he worked on the theory and application of Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) systems. He chaired four international conferences on PRT, lectured and gave courses widely in the U. S. and abroad on transit systems analysis and design, authored the textbook Transit Systems Theory, and published over 100 technical papers, mostly on PRT topics. In 1981, he initiated the design of a new PRT system, and in 1986, he moved to Boston University as a Professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering where he formed an industry team with members from five Boston-area companies to carry his PRT design to the point that in 1989 it attracted the attention of the Chicago RTA and Raytheon Company. In 1994, he moved back to the Minneapolis area where he has continued to work on commercialization of his system, which he now calls an “Intelligent Transportation Network System” (ITNS).
