Year 9 Options Evening Science Faculty Welcome to GCSE Science
Presentation Contents • Course Content of new GCSE Science • Science Options – Combined or Triple? • Module Grid and Class Structure • Exam Structure • Practical Endorsement • Digital Learning Tools • New Grading System
GCSE Science Choice • The new GCSE course limits choice from previous years. • Choice of either: • GCSE Combined Science (Double Award) • GCSE Triple Science • ELC Science • No Coursework but compulsory practical endorsement.
GCSE Science Choice • To select GCSE Triple Science students need a minimum grade of a grade 9SEC* • The Combined Science course covers the majority of the triple science course content. • Students this year have moved between double and triple science at the early stages of the course.
GCSE Triple Science GCSE Biology offers students: A firm foundation to go on to study A-level Biology A good background to specialise in other sciences The opportunity to gain a good understanding across a broad range of rich and relevant topics in: • human biology • organisms • evolution • the environment.
GCSE Triple Science GCSE Chemistry offers students: • A firm foundation to study A-level Chemistry • A good background to specialise in other sciences • The opportunity to gain a good understanding of: • the nature of substances and how they react together • how our knowledge of chemistry is used in business and industry • how our use of raw materials as fuels and in manufacturing can affect the local and global environment.
GCSE Triple Science GCSE Physics offers students: A firm foundation to go on to study A-level Physics A good background to specialise in other sciences The opportunity to gain a good understanding of: • the use and transfer of energy • waves, radiation and space • the application of physics
GCSE Triple Science GCSE Combined Science offers students: A good knowledge of science, studying the majority of content from GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics. A firm foundation to go on to study A-level Science subjects if target grades are met. The opportunity to gain a good understanding across topics such as: • keeping healthy • elements and atoms • the transfer of energy.
Y10 Theme Example Pokémon Theme Groups are given name on theme.

GCSE Combined SciencePractical Endorsement • Triple Science Practical's: • 10 Biology, 8 Chemistry, 10 Physics • Combined Science Practical's: • 7 Biology, 6 Chemistry and 8 Physics • Students will need to make a record of their work and what they have learnt.
