Which bubbles are best? Zachary Bridges 10/15/12
A little about bubbles… • Three layers • 2 detergent, 1 water • Surface tension • Surface tension aims to minimize surface area.
Materials • Bubble wand • Water • Joy Detergent • Light Corn Syrup • Glycerin
Procedure • Prepare bubble solutions • Blow some bubbles • Measure “best” • Average duration • Rate of Success • Biggest
Hypothesis • Since Glycerin is the most viscous, it will produce the best bubbles.
Conclusion • The Glycerin bubbles yielded the most, largest, and longest lasting of the specimen tested. • The Glycerin is a better candidate for an additive to a detergent-water bubble-making solution.
Hindrance of Evaporation • Both Glycerin and Corn Syrup form weak Hydrogen bonds with the inner layer of water, keeping the water from evaporating. Glucose and Fructose Glycerol (Glycerin)
