Kv Channel-interacting protein 1 (KChIP-1) NileshJambhekar
Function: • It is a regulatory subunit of Kv4/D (Shal)-type voltage-gated ion channels. • It is part of an Octamere of 4 Kv4/D subunits and 4 KChIP1 subunits. • It binds to the Calcium ion. • In the Kv4.2 N terminus, residues 7-11 and 71-90, are necessary for KChIP1 to regulate Kv4.2. • It “accelerates recovery” (repolarizes axon)” by causing Kv4/D to pump K+ ions out of the cell membrane.
Structure: KChIP1–Kv4.3 T1 complex The inside Kv.4.3 protein spiral is a hydrophobic area covered by the KChiP1 protein. Also notice the Kv4.3 protein is extending into the KChIp1 protein.
