Wales Rural Network • The purpose of the Wales Rural Network is to: • Group together the organisations and administrations involved in rural development in Wales; • To facilitate the exchange of expertise and knowledge; Transfer knowledge on best practice • Support the implementation and evaluation of rural development policy; • Secure and coordinate the flow of information between the local, national and European levels.
Key Tasks • Identify and disseminate examples of good practice • Support for inter-territorial and transnational cooperation • Establish and support Thematic Groups • Support cross-axis working within the RDP • Provide support, information and training to Local Action Groups • Set up of website, database and partner search facilities • Play a key role in the establishment of the UK Rural Network; feed into EU Network

To date • RDP Wales formally approved February 2008 • Rural Network Team (Aberystwyth) in place April 2008 • Action Plan agreed by PMC September 2008 • UK Network met June 2008, Jan & April 2009 • EU Network launched Oct 2008 in Cyprus conference • Steering Group established November 2008, 3 meetings held • 1st Thematic Group from Nov 2008, on Energy theme • WRN Launch Event held 22 Jan 2009 in Llandrindod • 2nd Thematic Group on Tourism from March 2009 • 3rd Thematic Group on Agri-Food began 10 June 2009

Next Steps • Hold further Conferences and Events • Establish up to 1 further Thematic Group • Mentoring / study visits (provisionally Pembs Sept 30th ’09) • Devise an e-newsletter • Develop website to include links, latest news, good practice and transnational partner search • Organise training / information events – eg. Across the RDP Axes, Working on Cooperation projects etc.
