Welcome to Year Six with Mrs. Lang & Mr. Sinnamon! This year is all about promoting self-belief, aspiration, determination, and independence. Be a role model for the school, secure the best skills for secondary school, and be emotionally ready for the next step in education. Enjoy the residential trip and prom! Our curriculum encourages independence in learning, awareness of the world, and key skills development in an engaging context. What Year Six is all about… • Promoting self-belief, aspiration, determination & independence • Role models for the rest of the school. • Securing the best skills possible for secondary school • Being emotionally ready for the next step in education • The residential & the prom!!! • Having a fantastic, final year at Preston Hedge’s!!!

  3. Our Curriculum • Encourages an independence in learning • Helps to develop an awareness of the world around them, and their place within it • Ensures that key skills are learned within an interesting, relevant context

  4. English and Maths • Groupings are very flexible! However all pupils will cover all Year 6 elements. • SATs – All new guidelines for 2016. They will come in May, but we will have an information meeting before then! • Homework – we would prefer this to be independent- if you do give them a hand, please just let us know

  5. How Can I Help My Child? • Encourage all types of reading and discuss their opinions with them. Make sure they tell you why they think something! • SPaG – correct them if their grammar is not quite right! • Encourage them to get involved in real maths: • how much is the basket of shopping? • What change will they receive? • Measure things out on a scale and convert to an equivalent measure • Look at timetables and plan a journey • Support them with their times tables • Guide them to the BBC website – for both KS2 and KS3 Maths and English
