  2. We will be covering three main areas: • Curriculum subjects we will be teaching during the year • Range of equipment that all members of the year group will need • Special events

  4. Homework • Set on Friday, to be handed in on Wednesday. • It has been recommended that children in Year 6 should be doing up to 30 minutes of homework per day, on a variety of tasks including reading at home. • Learning Log activity linked to the week’s learning • Reading • Spellings Reading books • Children in Year 6 should read widely, covering a range of fiction and non-fiction genres. In school, children will also read on a daily basis, either in specific reading focused lessons or as part of cross-curricular work.

  5. Equipment Equipment • Children are provided with equipment by school, but may bring a pencil case if they would like to. PE kits in school • PE kit needs to be in school all week. PE kit should include a named navy t-shirt, shorts and trainers. In the winter, children may also wear tracksuit bottoms and a jumper. Long hair must be tied back and jewellery removed. Water bottles • Children are encouraged to have their own labelled water bottle in school, which can be filled up from the water fountain in the cloakroom.

Special Events Residential • Monday 10th – Friday 14th February 2020. • This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop a range of skills from the ability to work as part of a team to skills in leadership and independence. Key Stage 2 SATs • The SATs weeks will take place during the week beginning Monday 11th May 2020. These are a series of national tests in English and Maths undertaken by all Year 6 children in England. • We will be holding a SAT information evening later in the year. Parent Consultations • Individual parent consultation appointments will take place on Tuesday 22nd October and Thursday 24th October. Class Representatives • Each class will be looking for parent volunteers who are willing to act as class representatives who are able to send out reminder emails and organise small fundraisers such as cake sales.

  10. Good bye Phil and Jim LF/RM In Term 6, we aim to give our students a fun but challenging end to their primary school career. We will therefore undertake various projects, which will include: Year 6 Yearbook • The children will write a yearbook as a memento of their years at Phil and Jim during Term 6 . • Pupils will receive their copy on the last day of school. End of Primary School celebration • Traditionally it has been great to end the year with a celebratory BBQ for the Year 6 pupils, parents and staff to share. The date for this has been set as Monday 20th July 2020. Please let the Year 6 teachers know if you would be interested in organising this event. • The children will end their time at Phil and Jim through a graduation-style Leaver’s Assembly on Monday 20th July 2020, exact time TBC. All parents are welcome to attend. Visits to secondary schools • This includes a Partnership Sports Day and Science and Health day at Cherwell Secondary School. Literacy story telling project • Transition project which links with Cherwell Secondary School. Year 6 Leavers’ Service • This will take place at St. Margaret’s Church during the final weeks of the school year. Year 6 Production • This will take place on the afternoon and evening of Thursday 16th July 2020.
