In Year 6 we will continue to promote…. All the children are encouraged to work independently. They have also been given responsibility in the form of class and school jobs.
HomeworkHomework will include:- reading (please hear your child read aloud at least three times a week and sign their reading record each time)- practising times tables- learning spellings for a test on Tuesday- comprehension tasks- maths tasks- SPaG tasks Please check homework diaries and sign weekly. I will collect them in to sign each Monday.
Learning logs • Topic based • Recount based (i.e. holidays). • Event based (e.g. stories in the media). Our first Learning Log about our family tree is due in anytime before the October half term.
English • Guided reading session with an adult • Comprehension work • Grammar (SPaG) • Speaking and Listening • Spellings • Shared reading and writing • Big Write
Reading Reading is still very important in Year 6. Please continue to read with your child regularly and sign reading diary. We look for at least 3 signatures a week. Look for: • Fluency • Expression • Punctuation • Comprehension • New vocabulary
Conjunctions SPaG
Spellings.... Spelling challenges will be set on a Tuesday. The spelling test will be the following week. The words will be put on the website as well as in your child’s spelling book.
Maths By Year 6 all children should be confident with telling the time. They should also know all their times tables!
Class Talks • Talks can be about anything that the children are interested in. • They should last roughly five minutes. • Please help with any research but try not to come up with a ‘script’. • Unfortunately due to computer virus’ in school we are unable to allow children to transfer work using a USB pen. They can however display PowerPoint's or photos using a CD or may e-mail them to myself in school. Email address : m.roddy@poulton-st-johns.lancs.sch.uk
The children are using this app to show you the fantastic work they are doing in school. When your child adds new items to their learning journal, you will be notified via the app. You may then 'like' and comment positively on their work. I will also be adding items which will help support your child when completing their homework.
Remember... • Reading books and reading records • Homework diaries • Water bottles • Trainers and P.E. kits including joggers for lessons on Tuesday and Thursday. I’m here to help, come and see me anytime.
