Core Principles • Boys Need Positive Connections to Adults Generally, and Men Specifically • Boys and Young Men of Color Must Be Seen and Engaged as Important Consumers, Advocates and Leaders • Policy and/or Systems Change Efforts Must Benefit Boys and Young Men of Color • Boys and Young Men of Color Are Important Assets to California’s Families and Neighborhoods

Program Goals and Objectives • Improve health of BMOC in 10 years • BMOC is not a separate campaign • Assures that TCE strategies achieve health equity; focus TCE on closing health gaps in BHC communities • 3 Year Focus: • Implement alternative school discipline policies to reduce “school push-out” • Increase access to school-based health services • Improve effectiveness of health and support services, through culturally competent trauma informed care

Strategy Summary • Changing the Conversation— raise public awareness, promote healthy and positive images, knowledge creation and dissemination, and youth engagement. • Creating Local Impact—build local capacity and leadership to advance agenda. • Advancing Better Policies and Practices—craft and promote an actionable policy agenda that connects goals of local coalitions to state-level and national advocacy.

  5. Strategy Summary • Building state and local network of advocates and leaders • Youth leadership • Deeper capacity building and engagement in three BHC regions: Fresno, Oakland, LA • Partnerships with private and public sectors
