Texas is Leading the Nation Texas PE Teachers: • utilize standards as their framework. • develop curriculum that is sequential and builds on prior knowledge. • design lessons with the end in mind (desired outcomes). • focus on developing necessary skills and knowledge for life-long activity. • make State mandates/requirements their minimum. • ensure classes are anenjoyable, student centered experience.
Texas Sets the Story Straight • Physical Education vs. Physical Activity • Are they the same? • Moderate or Vigorous Physical Activity • What does this mean? Moderate or vigorous are describing the intensity of the activity. How much energy are you expending or how hard are you working? Moderate – heart rate up but you can still talk. Vigorous – breathing hard and fast, heart rate is up quite a bit, and you can only say a few words without pausing for a breath. NO! Physical Education programs are opportunities for students to be engaged in instruction about motor skills, fitness education, cooperative skills and MORE! Physical activity is bodily movement of any type and does not have to be formal (RECESS).
