History • 1894 – Act 68 creates a “first-class Industrial Institute and College for the education of the children of the State of Louisiana in arts and sciences.” • 1895 – Classes begin at the Industrial Institute and College of Louisiana with 6 faculty and 202 students • 1921 – Became the Louisiana Polytechnic Institute and offered its first Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering • 1970 – Renamed Louisiana Tech University
