  2. Born in 570 CE in Mecca located in Middle East Became an Orphan and was taken care of by his uncle He became a merchant and got married in Mecca While being exposed to monotheistic ideas, Muhammad was not happy with material life Basic Information- Muhammad’s Life

  3. An angle tells Muhammad that he is a profit, and soon enough he starts to gather followers. Under threat from the Umayyad clan Muhammad flees to Medina. This is the journey that Muslims will take each year called hijra. After attacks and battles, Muhammad got Arabs to convert to Islam. This was the beginning of a great world religion created in the post-classical period Muhammad’s Story

The previous story relates to many other cultures around the world in the classical and post-classical eras. • Major world religions like Islam, Christianity, and Hinduism consolidated many smaller groups • Ex. In India Hinduism acted as glue and kept the society together and united all people in India who were Hindus Theme: Unity & Consolidation

  5. In the Middle East, Islam gave people a common religion which soon lead to the Umayyad and Abbasid eras • Muhammad’s religion is an example of unity and consolidation Unity & Consolidation cont.

  6. Theme: Unity & ConsolidationComparison The theme that was created by Muhammad in Islam is present in many places around the globe. These three themes are also present in the spread of Islam to Africa and Southeast Asia
