Configuration of tests: Tested according to standard EN 50638 (2003) Tray used: CF105/450 (3 meters) Span 1500 Coupled with fast coupler EDRN at 1/5th of the span Cables: Three 38mm outside diameter single core power cables in a trefoil formation. They represent the most common form of cabling used and potentially the most difficult cables to test (the smaller the diameter the higher the strain on the cleats). Cleats Ellis Patents cleats. See details of rigs for cleat model.
Rig 1: Cleat: ALPHA (aluminium) Spacing of cleats: 600mm Peak current: 70 kA (72.4 kA actual) Represents a force of 13 152N on the cleats
Rig 2: Cleat: VULCAN (stainless steel) Spacing of cleats: 600mm Peak current: 100 kA(104 kA actual) Represents a force of 26 842N on the cleats
The lab: 3 cables are short circuited Close inspection before/after High speed camera link up
before test 50ms after short circuit Rig 1 Rig 2
MOVIE: Movie can be viewed on youtube.com!!!
RESULTS Rig 1: 70 kA Class 1: Water spray: Class 2: according to EIC draft Rig 2: 100 kA Class 1: Water spray: Class 2: according to EIC draft Class 2 test is equivalent to Class 1 test after the rig has already been tested once.
Conclusion: First time ever a short circuit test conducted on wire cable tray. Confirming Cablofil as a power cable management solution.
