Back in Canaan • Other groups are now living in the land: Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, Jebusites, Canaanites • Joshua begins fighting with these other societies • Israel ruled by judges after the death of Joshua 1380 BCE – 1050 BCE • Around 1200 BCE Israel controls Canaan again • Israel asks for a king (1 Samuel 8:19-22)

David David united the two kingdoms of Judah and Israel into one nation David was both king and chief priest He made Jerusalem their capital city and brought the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem making it the “holy city”
Solomon David wanted to build a temple dedicated to God, but was told that it would be his son that builds this great temple. Solomon (David’s son) received very specific instructions from the Lord on how to build this temple. Nothing like this had ever been built before

The Kingdom of Israel After being protected from the Assyrians, the people of Israel got complacent. They no longer followed the laws given to Moses. They lived however they wanted and even followed foreign gods
