Religion • Religion is defined as the beliefs, attitudes, emotions, behavior, ect. constituting a persons relationship with the powers and principles of the universe. • No personal relationship involved. • Christ is not mentioned. • Anyonecan be religious. • Only the believing can be Christians.

The Jesus +____stuff Are you relying on church, tithes, or anything else to get you in Heaven along with your relationship with Christ? • Jesus + evangelism: How many people have you led to Christ this year? • Jesus + contribution: Are you giving your tithes to the Church? • Jesus + heritage: Were you raised in church? • Jesus + doctrine: When you were baptized, was the water deep, hot, or cold?

The Jesus +____stuff 1The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.2He replied, "When evening comes, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,' 3and in the morning, 'Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.' You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. 4A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah." Jesus then left them and went away. Matthew 16:1-4

  5. The faith of the Pharisee's • In Matthew 16:1-4, we see the kind of faith the Pharisee's and Sadducee's had…a Jesus + miracles faith. • They ask Jesus for a miraculous sign from Heaven. Jesus responds appropriately by saying “A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign.” (v. 4)

Pure Grace Faith • Pure grace faith Christians must trust in Christ alone. • A Christian is defined as professing or following the religion of Christ, relating to or one who believes the teachings of Christ. • This definition mentions specifically who we are following: Christ. • The teachings of Christ. What does this mean? Basically, the Bible. • One key teaching: “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus is lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”Romans 10:9

  7. Pure Grace Faith • Grace is getting something you don’t deserve. • We all have sinned.“For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.”Romans 3:23 • We don’t deserve anything. By accepting God’s grace, we can have eternal life. (Ephesians 2:8-9) • A pure grace faith means accepting the fact we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, but realizing the fact He has given us a second chance. • A pure grace faith means trusting in God alone and nothing else. (Matthew 8:5-10). Not having a Jesus +__faith, but a Jesus alone faith.

Someone who is a Christian:Believes in Christ and the teachings of Christ.Has a personal relationship with Christ.Has a pure grace faith.Trusts in God alone.
