Student-Learning or Service Outcomes To become aware of, organize, recognize, listen to, assimilate, and respond to factual knowledge of music literature and history through its cultural and historical perspectives. To recognize, identify, analyze, and re-create concepts related to sequential music theory including developing music notational skills on a computer utilizing the appropriate software. To perform and develop the basic utilization of fine motor skills related to sight singing and keyboard skills. To perform skillfully and develop an attitude of appreciation for solo and ensemble performance through a variety of repertoire. To synthesize and develop pedagogy appropriate to the selected music educational career. To confirm the assimilation of cognitive, affective, and music psychomotor skills acquired during students course of study. Program Quality Improvement Report 2009-2010

Alignment of Outcomes • The University Mission Statement: The Bachelor of Music program is designed with NASM accreditation to prepare students for professional success and the tools for life-long learning. The program is one of the most important aspects of this region’s cultural lifestyle. In addition, the faculty are devoted to a curriculum that is student-centered. All teaching classrooms have state-of-the-art equipment in line with the University mission statement. • The University Strategic Plan 2013: The Strategic plan addresses issues of new educational partnerships, improved course delivery, and enriching the educational, cultural, and social life of the region. The plan also address the desire to achieve or exceed the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s target retention and graduation rates for Cameron University.The Bachelor of Music program enriches the community as previously mentioned in the university mission statement. In addition, the Chair of the Music department has initiated an extensive program that involves the faculty with all the regional music teachers in an effort to improve area retention and graduation rate. • Department Mission: It is the department’s main goal to enrich and improve the instruction of our students. Any modifications or changes in curriculum are all geared to improved student retention and learning. The addition of the Bachelor of Music Education degree is another effort to fulfill the needs of the music student and the community in general. Program Quality Improvement Report 2009-2010

4. Alignment of Outcomes, (cont.) 4. School of Liberal Arts Mission: The School of Liberal Arts’ mission statement is closely aligned with the School of Music. The B.M.Ed will supply our community with students that will encourage culture and scholarship in the community as teachers and mentors. These same students will produce concerts, recitals, theatre productions, art exhibitions, lectures, symposia, workshops, camps, and public forums which will enrich the intellectual and cultural lives of all of our constituents.

Even though there are no previous reports, the actions of the B.M. and B.A. program will be highly influential for all future action plans of the B.M.Ed. 8. Display of assessment data The Department of Music currently has about 25 students that are designated as B.M.Ed. students. Most of these are incoming Freshmen and so there is no data to present at this time. Also, it is not possible to determine the data from students that recently changed their major to the B.M. Ed. Program Quality Improvement Report 2009-2010

9. Action plan for Student-Learning or Service Outcomes Because this is the first year of this degree the main focus for maximum learning outcome will be to concentrate on excellent advising. In cooperation with the Education department, a suggested four-year enrollment plan has been devised. Careful observation and advisement for the first couple of years is critical. The plan is to have the advisement double-checked and monitored much more extensively than normal. As with all music students, access to the most up-to-date music software is essential.
