About Mrs. Green • I got married over the Summer! I used to be Ms. Hayes, but now my name is Mrs. Green!
About Mrs. Green • This is my 5th year teaching at Thompson High School. • I’m in graduate school at the University of Montevallo. I’m getting my degree in School Counseling. • I love music, teaching, reading, traveling, pictures, and my kids!
What do we do in your class? • We READ something every day! • We WRITE something every day! • We LEARN something every day! • We have FUN! • We will read three novels (To Kill A Mockingbird,The Secret Life of Bees, & Anthem). • We will read Romeo & Juliet. • We will read some poems and short stories with each unit. • We will write a research paper! • We will read the Odyssey.
What tests do we take in your class? • You will take a unit test at the end of each unit we cover (short stories, novels, plays, poetry, etc). • You will take an end of the semester exam in December and May. • You will have an assessment after the 1st and 3rd Nine Week semesters.
What do I need for your class? • One 1 ½” three ring binder (with college ruled notebook paper) or a large spiral notebook (with perforated college ruled paper) • Composition notebook • The text that we are reading (if not provided in class) • A working writing utensil (pen or pencil) • Flash drive (to save your writing assignments this year) • Large manila envelope (for research papers) • A copy of To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee (1st semester) • A copy of The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd (1st semester) • A copy of Anthem by Ayn Rand (2nd semester)
What are your rules? • #1. Be respectful of the teacher, your peers, and yourself! • #2. Come to class every day on time and prepared! • #3. Be responsible for your things and your actions! • #4. Follow all THS and Alabaster City School rules.
What should I not do in your class? • Talk while the teacher is talking • Fail to pay attention • Make derogatory or obscene comments • Use your cell phone!!! • Be late • Have a bad attitude • Forget your reading homework • Fail to ask for your make up work if you are absent • Lose your supplies, textbook, personal items, etc. • Turn in your assignments late • Fail to follow THS or Alabaster City School Rules
What happens if I break the rules in your class? • Depending on what you did….the first time is usually a warning • The second time I will probably email or call Mom/Dad/Guardian • The third time I will write you up and you will get to go visit Mrs. McKnight • If the first offense is a major offense, I will write you up and you will get to go visit Mrs. McKnight.

I try to keep it updated on a regular basis. This is a great resource if you are absent from my class.

What does it take to be successful in your class? • LISTEN!!! • Do YOUR best! • COMPLETE your assignments and turn them in ON TIME! • Do your Journal every day in class!!! • COMPLETE your READING HOMEWORK!!!! • Study for my tests! • Ask questions when you do not understand! • Follow the rules! • Be nice to Mrs. Green, and she will be nice to you!
