GPA/Rank • Students received their Rank and GPA in September. • Unweighted is on a 4.0 scale • Weighted is on a 6.0 scale
Test Dates 2019 SAT’s- at Cherokee HS- www.collegeboard.org October 5, November 2, December 7 ACT’s-www.actstudent.org October 26, December 14
How many schools should I apply to? • Reach 1-2 • Good Match 2-3 • Safe 1-2 • Think about major, location, size, setting (rural/urban/suburban), extracurricular activities. • Realistic evaluation of each college’s admission requirements (grades, standardized test scores, required high school courses).
Types of College Admissions • Early Decision is a contract between you and the college. You can only apply to 1 school early decision. If you are accepted, you MUST attend. BINDING contract! • Early Action is more flexible. You do not have to commit to the college if you are accepted. You can apply to multiple schools. • Rolling Admission - Applications are evaluated as they are received. • Regular Decision - decisions are made once ALL applications have been received by deadline. Pay attention to deadlines!
Applications Student Responsibilities: • Request 2 teacher recommendation letters • Complete Brag Sheets • Complete and submit applications • Set up Naviance • Submit Transcript Request Forms • Sent SAT / ACT scores
1. Teacher Recommendations • Ask two teachers politely in person. Give teachers at least two weeks notice. • Put teacher recommendation request in Naviance 1. Click on Colleges,College Home + Letters of Recommendation 2.Click Add Request 3. Select teacher’s name from drop down bar 4. Select “all current and future colleges” 5. SubmitRequest • Check Naviance to see when letters have been completed. • When teachers write you a letter, they will also fill out the Common Application Teacher Form electronically. **Teacher letters should be completed when you are requesting transcripts** • If you have any outside letters, you will need to send them on your own.
2. Brag Sheets • Brag Sheets help Counselors write great recommendations! • Brag sheets can be found on Naviance: • Click on About Me + About Me Home • My Surveys + See All Surveys • Student Brag Sheet & Parent Brag Sheet tocomplete for Counselors.

4. Link Common App & Naviance • www.commonapp.org • Enter email and create password • Fill out application & complete FERPA waiver • Login to Naviance from Shawnee website • Click on Colleges • Click on Colleges I’m applying To. • Click the Match Accounts button and follow the prompts.
5. Transcript Request Forms Sample included in your packet Turn in Request Form to the Registrar in the Counseling Center after you have completed the application. This is how you notify us that you applied to the school!
6. Sending Test Scores You must send Standardized Test scores to colleges directly from the testing agency: College Board (SAT’s)- www.collegeboard.org ACT- www.actstudent.org
Applications Counselor Responsibilities: Your School Counselor will submit the following electronically to colleges: • Transcripts • Teacher Recommendations • Counselor Recommendation • School Reports or other forms • Mid-Year Report (including first semester transcript) and Final Report
Rutgers The Rutgers application process is unique • Apply online on Rutgers website • Self report your grades on Rutgers website-SRAR (Self Reported Academic Record) • Send your SAT/ACT scores directly from testing agency to Rutgers. Rutgers does not want a high school transcript or recommendation letters. If you enroll, a Final Transcript will be sent in June.
RCBC Spring Ahead Program • October 22th- Attend RCBC informational meeting at Shawnee. • Apply to RCBC online. FREE • December – Transcript request form due in Counseling Center. • February 11 – Placement Test at Shawnee. ACCUPLACER prep available online. 5. April 21 – Trip to RCBC to register for classes. • Top 15% weighted rank = NJ Star
College Athletics Students who are planning to play in a Division I, II sport need to complete the following: • Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center: http://eligbilitycenter.org • Send official test scores from College Board/ACT to NCAA • Submit a transcript request form so we can send your transcript to NCAA

Financial Aid • Visit Financial Aid website - www.fafsa.ed.gov • Complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online after OCTOBER 1st • Check college deadlines for FAFSA • NJ Stars must apply for financial aid • Student Loan Guide distributed by the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority of NJ (HESAA): Financial Aid Night October 10, 2019 6 pm Shawnee HS-Auditorium
