History • Minimalism began in New York in the 1960’s in response painterly subjectivity of Abstract Expressionism • Inspired by artistic movement such as De Stijl and Roman Constructivism. • Inspired as well by artists with simplistic styles such as Russian Kazimir Malevich, Joseph Albers, and ConstantinBrâncuși.   4. History • Became better known after art critic Barbara Rose wrote about Minimalism in her article "ABC Art," Art in America (October-November 1965) • "Primary Structures" exhibition, The Jewish Museum, NYC, April 1966 • Minimalism reached its peak from mid 1960’s-1970’s. (Source)

  10. The concept of minimalist architecture is to strip everything down to its essential quality and achieve simplicity. The idea is not completely without ornamentation, but that all parts, details and joinery are considered as reduced to a stage where no one can remove anything further to improve the design.
