Alki Science Classes • 6th Grade Curriculum - Earth Science • 7th Grade Curriculum - Life Science • 8th Grade Curriculum - Physical Science • The Measures of Student Progress (MSP) state assessment for 8th grade science will occur in May. All three years of content will be covered.

Resources • Physical Science by Prentice Hall. • Planetary Science Kit, developed at UC Berkeley, • Properties of Matter Kit by the Smithsonian National Science Resources Center.
Scientific Method and Experiment Design Metric Measurement Atomic Structure (Chemistry) Properties of Matter Laws of Motion Energy Work & Simple Machines Planetary Science (Emphasis on Earth, Moon, Sun relationship) Wave Structures and Behaviors Electromagnetic Spectrum Electricity/Magnetism Curriculum Topics
Reporting Schedule • iPad grade checks every week • Progress Reports every 6 weeks • Report Cards every 12 weeks • Family access online grades. Paperwork and password available through Mrs. Redd in office.
Turning In Work • Assignments are turned in as packets. • Notes, Vocabulary, Current Events are completed in composition notebooks and turned in. • Missing work completed before packet is due. • Late work = 60% • Help available after school.
Absence • What to do to get caught up….. • Look at the assignment calendar on Mr. Gray’s website or the front of the room. • Get missed work from the “Old Assignments” box. • Ask your tablemates for clarification. • Ask Mr. Gray if you are still confused. • Complete the work by making arrangements to stay after school or come before school if needed. Some work can be completed at home.
Homework • Current Event every other Thursday • Late Current Events will only be accepted one day after due date (Friday) for 60% • Other homework will not follow a set schedule.
Classroom Rules • Be polite • Be on time (In seat and filling out planner when tardy bell rings.) • Be on task and ready to volunteer. • Be prepared (Have paper, pencils/pens and other supplies.)
