  9. FHA Environmental Committee The FHA Environmental Committee mission is to protect and preserve our water backyard through education, example, and activities that foster environmental stewardship.

Seattle Shoreline Master Program (SMP) • SMP - Required by State Shoreline Management Act (SMA) • SMA - Major Policy Goals: • Preferred Shoreline Uses (water dependent) • Environmental Protection • Public Access • SMP - Local Planning and Regulation Document that Implements the SMA • SMP - Goals, Policies and Regulations for Shoreline Use and Development (e.g. shoreline permits and building codes) What is It?

SMP Timeline • 1971 - State Shoreline Management Act (SMA) passed • 1972 - Seattle Shoreline Master Program (SMP) adopted • 1987 - Seattle SMP updated (now in effect) • 2003 - New State shoreline guidelines adopted • 2007 - Seattle SMP update initiated • 2010 - New Seattle SMP regulations adopted
