  2. Membership Members • 4,598 total • 3,445 professionals • 422 students • 729 affiliates • 2 institutional • Increase in professional and affiliate members. Decrease in students. • Retention 2006: Total = 67%, 1st year= 37%, 2+years = 82% Chapters • 3,427 professional members, on 5 continents and 28 chapters • 214 student members (U.S.) 5334 4808 4598 4392 4409

Finances (2007 Projected) • Fund Balance • $802,326 for FY 2006 • Increasing and exceeded required • balance for FY 2006 • Will meet increased requirement • for FY 2007 • Solid recovery from prior deficit • Conferences • CHI again returning solid surplus • Attendance increasing each year • Membership rebounding to pre-crash • levels

CHI Conference History • 2002-2003: Conference attendance declined approximately 40% from 2001 • 2002-2003: Conferences lost approximately 300K each • 2004-2005: Attendance stabilizes and costs reduced so conferences return ACM allocation and begin to return surpluses CHI 2006 • Model is changed (5 days), tutorials/courses folded into conference, broader outreach to communities while retaining traditional audience • Fees increased by around $200 • Attendance increases (up 50% from 2003), satisfaction continues at traditional levels (90% report that conference was worth the money) Status of Upcoming Conferences • 2007: Submissions rate remains high in traditional areas, some new areas show strong growth (notes, experience, tutorials); sponsorship exceeds budget and still growing; registration opens at end of month • 2008: Florence, Italy - committee formation and budget underway

Publications • interactions Magazine for practitioners • TOCHI – addresses the needs of researchers • The CHI conference proceedings + very strong smaller conferences • Digital Library – SIGCHI percent of all SIG downloads • 8.87% in FY 2006 (first of all SIGs) • 8.75% in FY 2005 (third of all SIGs)
