Discovery!!! • Silicon was first identified as an element in 1787 by Antoine Lavoisier. • However in 1800 Humphrey Davy believed silicon was a compound and not an element. • Gay-Lussac and Thénard tried to purify silicon in 1811 through heating potassium with silicon tetraflouride. • JonsBerzilius is credited with the discovery because he was the first one able to purify and get silicon through a similar method.
Uses • Silicon valley is named that because of all the silicon chip manufacturers. That is one of the most popular uses of silicon • It is also found in quartz and other rocks and minerals. • Alloys such as aluminum-silicon mainly used in the automotive industry.
