  1. PUNETT SQUARES

  2. How do we know what an offspring will look like? • Chance determines which genes an offspring will inherit from its parent

  3. What is a punnett square? • Tool used to predict the phenotype of an offspring

  4. Parent genotype is placed above and to the side of the punnett square Place a letter into each box Each box is equal to 25% that the trait will show up How do you use a punnett square?

  5. Using Punnett Squares • Mom’s genotype – bb • Dad’s genotype is bb. B – no dimples b – dimples

  6. Dad’s genotype – BB • Mom’s genotype – bb B- no dimples b- dimples

  7. Mom’s genotype –Bb • Dad’s genotype – bb B-no dimples b- dimples

  8. Dad’s genotype – BB • Mom’s genotype – Bb B-no dimples b- dimples

  9. Tom is homozgous brown eye and Becky is a homozgous blue eye. Brown eyes are dominant to blue eyes. What will the children look like? Example 1

  10. Mickey Mouse is a heterozygous black fur and Minnie Mouse is a homozygous brown fur. Black fur is dominant to brown What are the possible genotypes of each offspring? What is the percentage for each genotypes? Example 2

  11. Donald Duck and Daisy are both heterozygous for their yellow beaks. Yellow beak is dominant to an orange beak. What are the possible genotypes? What are the percentages for each genotype? Example 3
