  3. Goals of CSPS • 1. The master level college student personnel services professional demonstrates an understanding of historical trends in student affairs, professional ethics, and professional roles and functions relevant to higher education as it exists in a multicultural and pluralistic society. • 2. The master level college student personnel services professional demonstrates mastery of a knowledge base that includes human development and learning, social and cultural influences on student behavior, helping relationships, group work, consultation, appraisal, research and evaluation, and professional standards. • 3. The master level college student personnel services professional should demonstrate professional behavior by acting in a manner that demonstrates an acceptance of diversity and a readiness to act in accordance with accepted standards for professional practice in student affairs. • 4. The master level college student personnel services professional models and values skills in leadership, organization, budgeting, and staff development in higher education.

  4. Student Learning Outcomes • Student learning outcomes are used to help students understand the knowledge and skills, that they are expected to acquire at the university.

  5. Student Learning Outcome 1 • Demonstrate a knowledge of the history, philosophy, and current trends in the student affairs Professions

  6. Student Learning Outcome 2 • Identify the various roles and functions that exists within student affairs, such as the organization, administration and finance of higher education

  7. Student Learning Outcome 3 • Demonstrate knowledge about the American College Personnel Association, and other professional organizations as relevant to his or her career goals, and code of ethics. The student should be able to apply the knowledge by proposing solutions addressing ethical issues

  8. Student Learning Outcome 4 • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills essential for working and leading in a multicultural environment

  9. Student Learning Outcome 5 • Demonstrate ability to use assessment, evaluation and research data to inform practice and administration decisions, and to be able to improve CSPS in colleges and universities

  10. Student Learning Outcome 6 • Identify how learning and development theories can be implemented in daily practice within student affairs in postsecondary education

  11. Student Learning Outcome 7 • Demonstrate an understanding of group dynamics, leadership training, and conflict resolution by discussing ideas and concepts effectively in written and spoken words

  12. Student Learning Outcome 8 • Apply technology as it pertains to his or her professional role while demonstrating ethical methods of retrieval, interpreting, and distributing information

Curriculum Map • The curriculum map is used to help universities become more effective by helping instructors determine if their teachings are in alignment with the university goals, program goals and outcomes. If you will take a look at the curriculum map the instructor will determine if a student will be introduced to one of the SLO’s or if the SLO will be reinforced or mastered during their course.

Objectives • Objectives are statements that explain the desired learning outcomes of instruction; (i.e. Skills, Values or Attitude) • Cognitiveobjectives: “What do you want your graduates to know?” • Affective objectives: “What do you want your graduates to think or care about?” • Behavioral Objectives: “What do you want your graduates to be able to do

  16. Assessment Measurement • The assessment method is the general type of tool you will use to assess the Student Learning Outcome. • Examples of measures: • Exam, Research Papers, Portfolios, Presentations
