  1. “Coming Together for Clean Water” Caitlyn Mello and Gwen Richards EEOS 476 April 11,2011 http://data.yarmouth.ma.us/REPORTS/IWRPC/Pictures/

  2. We need to develop a BASELINE; to know how to proceed, and how to prove the success of our actions • No new/continuing data on sediment accumulation • Using feasibility maps from 1983 and 2006 to determine a new rate of sediment accumulation

  3. “Reduce pollution from discrete sources" p.5 Must use green infrastructure while addressing CSOs p.8 • Line areas of Morrissey Blvd. and University Dr. with vegetation. • Decrease pollutants entering Savin Hill Cove, possibly sediments http://images.enhancements.org/1-Ped-Bike-Facilities/A-Green-Street92nd-AvePortland/3349071_8zrQp/1/186688894_UUUJd/Large

  4. Establish Performance Standards for Storm Water Discharge • Morrissey Blvd. storm water drain empties into cove

  5. Addressing Neponset River Impacts • What is happening farther up the Neponset River? • More vegetation along river • How will the future of the Neponset River effect the cove?

  6. "Rely on the rule of law and seek CREATIVE and more effective ways..." p.5 •   • Students like us can benefit from future work in Savin Hill Cove • Allow money for future EEOS student projects/classes in reoccurring dredging budget • Turn to natural solutions by implementing • vegetation along Savin Hill cove and Neponset • salt marsh ecosystem in cove • Pneumatic barriers

  7. "Partner with states, tribes and LOCAL ENTITIES to agree upon priorities, integrate data, actions and resources, streamline workloads, and ensure joint strategies for success" p.5 • Improve public understanding of impacts from dredging, sediment accumulation and poor water quality p.7 • Involve students and professors from UMASS • Involve the Savin Hill Yacht Club • Involve MWRA

  8. "Increase Protection of Healthy Waters" p.6 Savin Hill Cove will deteriorate if sediments, debris, and pollutants are allowed to accumulate unchecked http://www.cluelessinboston.com/2009/03/umass-boston.html

  9. Resource • Coming Together for Clean Water: EPA’s Strategy to Protect America’s Waters
