The Meaning Of  Wattage In An  Amplifier The power of an amp is usually measured in watts. This is why  you will find something like 100 watts per channel. What does  this mean? Is this receiver able to deliver those 100 watts? How  about the home theater systems that are labeled as 1000 watts?  Does this mean that they are more powerful as compared to the  2000 A/V receivers? The truth of the matter is that all watts  are not created equal. Unlike what many people think,  power  ratings  is  not  the  right  way of measuring the loudness  potential of the receiver, HTIB  or amplifier against one another.  The  more  the  power  that  you  will  pound  on  the  speaker  the  louder  it  will  manage  to  play.  However,  more  power  doesn’t  mean that the watts will sound  better. 2000w amplifier

While many of us like having more rather than less power, the catch is While many of us like having more rather than less power, the catch is  that there isn’t a reliable way in which consumers can learn about the  given amp, HTIB or receiver wattage. However, if you are searching for  a certain specification that will work well for you, you should consider  the weight. The truth of the matter is that the stuff that makes the  power are usually heavy. When you check under the premium amplifier or the expensive A/V  receiver, you will notice the humongous power transformer. When you  have some powerful amps, these will require some bigger transformers  that are able to pull lots of power from wall outlets. The high current  transformers are in most cases quite heavy. This is on top of the fact  that other parts that are related to the power supply are also quite  heavy and are not very cheap. The truth of the matter is that most of the  A/V receivers that are worth $500 are not in a position to deliver the  spec­ed power into the seven channels. There are even some that are not  able to deliver even a third of the wattage that they claim to have.  Perhaps the reason why most manufacturers are able to get away with  the fraud is that most consumers do not listen that loud.
