Matthew 22:23-32 – Dealing with doubting Sadduccees • Confronting Resurrection Doubters • Sadducees believed in scripture, but not resurrection. • They found the doctrine to be unreasonable.
Acts 4:1-2 -- The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people. They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. • Jesus believed in the resurrection. • Peter and John believed in the resurrection.
Acts 17:32 -- When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, "We want to hear you again on this subject.“ Some Greeks found the doctrine of resurrection to be foolishness. It was unreasonable. But Paul believed. • Confrontation with Greeks
But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. • 1 Corinthians 15:12-13
Some of the Corinthians were teaching that there was no resurrection of the dead. • But Paul gave them reasons to believe. • Paul was a well-educated man. One of the best educated of his time. And he believed in the resurrection.
I Corinthians 15:3-8 -- …Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day … and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Romans 10:9 -- That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. • So, resurrection is an essential doctrine. • We must believe in the resurrection to be saved.
