Abnormal uterine bleeding • FIGO menstrual disorders group • Symptom nomenclature described elsewhere • Recommends abandonment of terms menorrhagia, metrorrhagia and DUB
AUB • Abnormal uterine bleeding – bleeding from the uterine corpus that is abnormal in volume, regularity and/or timming. • Chronic- present for the majority of the last 6 months • Acute – an episode of sufficient severity to require immediate intervention to prevent further loss • Acute may preset in context of existing chronic AUB • IMB – bleeds that occur between clearly defined cyclic and predictable menses
