Gender perspective in migration statistics • Statistics Norway: Kristin Egge-Hoveid • National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova: Nina Chesnokova • Discussant: Marion van den Brakel, Statistics Netherlands
EU regions: born abroad by sex * 2009 figures
Immigrants: which group to consider? • People who entered the country (in a reference periode) • Citizenship (native/foreign) • Country of birth (origin: first and second generation)
Some conclusions (1) • Moldova: • Labour migration women: 37% • Women: domestic work&personal care, higher education level than men • Data sources: population censuses, household surveys, registers. • But still incomplete info on immigrants • Development of Extended Migration Profile
Some conclusions (2) • Norway • Tax register, aliens register, sample survey on living conditions (2005-2006) • 12% immigrants + Norwegian-born to immigrants • (female) immigrants lower labour participation • Immigrants are rather young • New survey on living conditions in 2015
Discussion points • National or international? • Data availability? • Immigrant women: equal to immigrant men/ equal to native women?
