What is the e-Field Note? • An electronic system for writing, storing, organizing, and displaying Field Note (FN) data • Consists of a dedicated handheld app to efficiently record and search FN data and a versatile, web-based database for managing and viewing data • Residents, Preceptors, and site administrators (Site Directors, Site Coordinators, A&E Site Faculty) will have individual accounts to use the system
Why Use e-Field Notes? • Easier recording, storing, and managing of FN data • Residents can track their performance in required competency areas • Preceptors can use accumulated FN data to help informsummativeassessments (ie. ITARs) • Site Directors can use accumulated FN data to help support Periodic Review meetings with Residents
What’s different than what we’ve been doing with paper Field Notes? • All FNs will now be recorded electronically (any paper FNs received will be entered manually by Residents) • Several revisions have been made to the FN format • e-FN data is stored electronically for easier managing, organizing, and viewing
What’s the same as what we’ve been doing with paper Field Notes? • FN content based on preceptor coaching feedback after observation of resident performance • Intention on assisting Residents to build competency across all: • Domains of Care • 6 Skill Dimensions • CanMEDS-FM roles • Target of 1 FN per day during residency
