The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes is a non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization, created to provide a meaningful way for individuals, corporations and others to help our severely wounded and disabled OEF/OIF veterans and their families rebuild their lives.

3. History • Founded in 2004 • Road to Recovery Conference & Tribute – 12/04 • 138 Severely Wounded and their families in Orlando • Contacted by Military Severely Injured Center – 5/05

Some Statistics From a Recent CSAH Survey with those with 30%+ disability rating… • 61% have experienced a decrease in their standard of living due to their injury • 65% have had to borrow money to make ends meet • For family members who spent much time with a wounded service member at a military or VA hospital, the average out-of-pocket cost was $1,460 per month Source: csahsurvey/300severely injured service-members 30%+ disability rating 3/06

5. Coalition ProgramsDesigned to Meet Short & Long Term Needs • Emergency Financial relief • Homes for wheelchair bound, blind or paralyzed veterans • Hero Employment and Development • Road to Recovery conferences • Family support network

6. Wounded Hero Emergency Financial Relief Financial relief provided: • Rent, mortgage, temporary housing, emergency home repairs, disability modifications, etc. • Food, clothing, diapers, and household necessities • Utilities; gas, heating oil, propane, electric, water, telephone, basic cable, etc. (primary residence only) • Automobile loan, lease or rental, insurance, repairs, new car deposits, gasoline, etc. (primary vehicle only) • Travel expenses

7. Emergency Relief Program Results • Over $700,000 of emergency assistance provided to over 300 wounded service members and their families(Since August, 2005) • Provided $500 holiday gift checks to 1,200 families

8. Homes for Paralyzed, Wheelchair Bound and Blind War Heroes Mission: • Offer disability adapted new or renovated homes—nearly free of charge • Provide disability adapted renovations and modifications from wheelchair ramps, handicap accessible counters, bath and shower, entryways, hallways, etc. • Completed 3 homes, broke ground on 2 others

Employment Mission: Increase Demand for Talent Pool & Prepare the Talent Supply • Launched 3 Employment Programs in late 2005 • Career counseling for disabled heroes and their spouses • Wounded Veteran Job shadowing and Mentoring • Access to over 1,500 On-line Training programs • 2006 Partner with NY Times on 4 “Salute Our Heroes” Veteran Career Fairs • Outreach, on-site accommodation services, transportation, on-site career counseling • Launched the Oracle Corporation Injured Veteran Employment and Training Program • MOU with Walter Reed Army Medical Center on creation of Director, Private Sector Employment position on-site at WRAMC

Road To Recovery Conference and Tribute Mission: • Provide much-needed support, education, networking opportunities and encouragement for wounded veterans • All-expenses paid • Seminars and educational job training and career counseling opportunities • Evaluations to help direct wounded heroes toward viable resources available to assist them and their families • Relaxation and Have Fun • Performances by famous singers and trips to sporting events and amusement parks

12. Family Support Network Mission: • Provide special services, counseling and support to help relieve the financial and emotional burdens severely wounded veterans and their families face while struggling to rebuild their lives

Coalition ProgramsFamily Support Network • Results: • Organized and staffed in-house support group; a dedicated, trained and experienced team of professionals who interact daily with veterans and families • Organized and managed dozens of “day trips” to ballgames, concerts, and theme parks • Provided 138 computers • Organized holiday parties at multiple military hospitals and treatment centers

15. Words from an Injured Veteran... I would like to pick up the broken pieces, throw them in a bucket, and get moving forward. Then, as I move forward, I can glue together one piece at a time, until my life is as back to normal as it can be. Now, in the event that there are pieces missing, so be it – there just won’t be a complete physical me when all is said and done. However, there is more to life than just a body, and I won’t let a few missing body parts convince me that I am not whole again. No sir! As long as my heart is whole, and my spirit is intact, God will take care of the rest. I hope to gain new direction, new knowledge, new friendships, and a new future. Most of all – I want to get myself to where I can help others. - Jason C.
