What is bullying? • Hitting or Pushing • Name calling • Teasing • Threatening • Spreading rumors • Leaving someone out • Taking or ruining someone’s things • Sending mean e-mails or texts It’s bullying if... Someone is hurting another person on purpose.

Bullying is NOT... Okay, fair, kind or acceptable! No one deserves to be bullied. Rosa Parks does not tolerate bullying.
Who Bullies? Anyone can be a bully!
Why do kids bully? • To get power and control over other kids. • Some kids who bully feel bad about themselves so they try to make others feel worse. • Some might think highly of themselves and think that it’s okay to be mean. • *Remember, bullies think they have all the power but they don’t!
Who is bullied? Lots of kids are bullied and NONE of them deserve it. Why does it happen to some kids more than others? • Kids who bully want to feel powerful and in control so they look for: • Differences • A Reaction • Isolation
Quick Review • Who do bullies pick on? Someone who is different. Someone who reacts. Someone who is alone.
How does bullying feel? Think: How does being bullied make people feel? Pair: Share your ideas with a partner. Share: Tell the class what you talked about.

What can you do if you are being bullied? 1. Appreciate Your Differences Let the bully know that being different doesn’t bother you a bit. “Yes I do use a wheelchair. So what?” ha ha ha 2. Do Something Unexpected Try not to give a bully what he/she wants. If you feel scared or upset, try not to show it. ...And ALWAYS Tell An Adult 3. Tell the Bully to STOP “Please stop, I don’t like that.”
Scenario #1 You are alone in the bathroom. A kid comes in and starts making fun of you. What do you do?
Scenario #2 • On the way to lunch a kid pushes you in line and says, “Out of my way Four Eyes!” • What do you do?
What can you do if you see bullying? • Do not join in. • Ask the kids who is bullying to STOP. • Tell the kid who is bullying that bullying is not allowed at Rosa Parks. • Be a friend to the kid who is being bullied. Let them know • it’s not their fault. And ALWAYS Tell an Adult.
Scenario #3 Out at recess you see a 4th grade boy kicking a smaller boy. What do you do?
Scenario #4 Someone passes you a note in class. The note says: “The new girl is fat and smells bad. Pass it along.” What do you do?
