Capacity Issues for Middle School in North Baton Rouge • Plans are in place to convert Scotlandville Elementary into a Pre-K thru 8th Grade campus
EBR Career Academy(Type 1 Charter) • Currently housed at the Brookstown Elementary campus for school year 2011-2012 • Plans call for a new facility to be built in the planned Smiley Heights development • 2011-2012 capacity is capped at 200 students • The goal is to attain an enrollment of 700 students by year 5
What is The Career Academy? • The Career Academy is an initiative of The Louisiana Resource Center for Educators, is a tuition-free charter high school focused on preparing students for careers in high-demand fields in Louisiana using hands-on and project based learning.

Instructional Services for English Language Learners (ELLs) • 2011-2012 school year, EBRPSS English as Second Language (ESL) Program instructional services for English Language Learners (ELLs) will change from five center school sites to approximately 45 schools as ELLs will attend their respective district/home schools. • This will eliminate long transfer bus routes for students and foster stronger parent involvement in school communities.
Instructional Services for English Language Learners (ELLs) • 10 Instructional Specialists are assigned to work with school administrators and teachers within an assigned cluster of 4-6 schools. • 40 teachers in the school district are ELL credentialed • 10 additional teachers are currently pursuing the ELL endorsement • Bi-Lingual Instructional Specialist for Parent Involvement hired to assist with the coordination of activities, trainings and the translation and interpretation of bi-lingual parent notifications as appropriate
Alternative Centers • Staring Education Center relocated to the Greenville Elementary campus located at 1645 N. Foster Drive, Baton Rouge 70806 • Connections Program for over-age students will be hosted at this location • Connections is a a 1 year process for overage students to receive targeted instruction and accelerated remediation to help them attain a high school diploma, GED, state-approved skills certificate or an industry-based certification. • The program is aimed at 8th graders, however, overage students in lower grade levels may be allowed into the program if space is available.

Health Care Centers in Schools • Begun in 1987, HCS is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that provides health care to approximately 45,000 children in all East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools and the EBR Recovery School District schools. Expansion efforts are currently underway, so by 2013 HCS will provide services at 16 health centers geographically dispersed across the city, with 11 providing year-round care.
