  10. So...are we meeting these demands? Initiative? Creativity? Work Ethic? Communication? Citizenship? Time Management? Problem Solving? Collaboration? Technical Skill? Independence??

  11. Is there a better way? Two ideas: Mass Customized Learning (MCL) – Individualizing to assess, provide a path and choice, reach potential Modular Schedule – 21, 20-minute segments – Flexibility, efficiency and effectiveness “Time serving students instead of students serving time”

  12. Goals.... *Build Independence and Self-Reliance *Meet students where they are and help them get to where they should go(reaching potential) *Offer a wider variety of courses and experiences *Allow teachers more effective time with students

Timeline... 2010-11 – Reviewed and evaluated, gathered data – visited Omaha Westside School, revised mission 2011-12 – Staff in-services in debate of ideas, refinement, created assessment tools for academic mission, implemented SAT and other cultural changes 2012-13 – Continued evaluation of methods, assessments and logistics of change. Selection of staff – Here we are.

  14. What does it look like.. See handout. Some different ideas for Harrisburg High School – this is a typical day for a student at Wasua West High – One of the schools we examined. And a typical proposed day for one of our students.

  16. Anxiety.... Are students ready? Do we have the staffing and preparation? Meeting needs of all students? Guarantees? Research-based, thoroughly investigated, staff support, three-years of readiness and will continually evaluate. Future Plan
