Mixed Case Risk Analysis In August 2010, NWS Headquarters began issuing Public Information Statements (PNS), Service Change Notices (SCN), and Technical Implementation Notices (TIN) in the mixed case format September 2011, four Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs), using AWIPS 1 software, began issuing the PNS, Area Forecast Discussion (AFD), and the Regional Weather Summary (RWS) in the mixed case format as experimental products In November 2012, NWS started a project entitled “Formatting NWS Products in Mixed Case.” NWS Central Region requested a “risk reduction exercise” be part of this project to: - Increase the number of offices issuing mixed case products - Increase the number of products issued as experimental products In July 2013, ten additional WFOs began disseminating the PNS, AFD, and RWS products in the mixed case format, using the AWIPS 1 software. At the same time, seventeen WFOs began disseminating eleven select RiverPro products in the mixed case format
Mixed Case Risk Analysis In 2013, the Storm Prediction Center began issuing the Public Severe Weather Outlook in mixed case format The select RiverPro products were baselined into the AWIPS 1 software in December 2013 and became re-hosted software code in AWIPS 2 In 2014, the National Hurricane Center and Central Pacific Hurricane Center began issuing the Tropical Cyclone Discussion and Tropical Weather Outlook in the mixed case format The NWS is currently working to have all Weather Forecast Offices and River Forecast Centers issue the eleven RiverProproducts in the mixed case format in October 2014 Paperwork has been submitted to the NWS Software Recommendation and Evaluation Committee to baseline all other text products for the mixed case format in AWIPS 2
