Welcome Remarks
Amb. Dr. Francis K. Muthaura Chairman, Hills Institute
Introduction to Hills Institute for Regional and International Trade Hills Institute was conceived out of appreciation of the economic transformation taking place in the East African Community and the African region in general. Africa and the East African Community are currently under focus in corporate boardrooms and international economic forums. However, while the economic dialogues are mainly taking place in Europe, North America, Asia and South Africa, there are no such forums taking place in East Africa, excluding inter-governmental conferences. Hills Institute’s mission is to fill that gap by providing forums for economic actors with regional and international business interests and growth ambitions to discuss topical and emerging challenges and opportunities in the regional and international business environment.
Introduction cont…… Economic transformation in Africa is being led by a combination of good governance and appropriate policy choices on the one hand and on the other, by the business successes being achieved in the oil, mining and communications sectors as well as the huge infrastructural investments being made in most countries of the region. The outcome of such strategic dialogues will impact on regional business strategies and policy choices aimed at making Kenya and the East African Community competitive emerging markets. To ensure that happens Hills Institute will facilitate dialogue of best minds in business, government, regional, international economic organizations and the academia.
