Engaging Emerging Economies • Special plenary session on SDI development in Africa; two plenary papers - Engaging Emerging Economies - an African Perspective; and, Committee on Development Information of the UN ECA • Keynote papers on global survey of NSDI activities; and the UN CSD • Two streams of 24 technical papers covering: technical strategies and considerations; global visions; case studies and progress reports; directions, policies and institutional issues; and, a north American perspective on NSDI
Activities of GSDI steering committee • Establish a global umbrella organisation • Develop a business case for SDI development • Support transitional initiatives, in particular, Permanent Committees for GIS Infrastructure for the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East • Submit resolution to the United Nations • Hold the next conference in South Africa • Establish four Working Groups • Participate in related initiatives
Conclusion • Learning from the experiences described in the many technical papers, and taking the opportunity to discuss matters of interest and concern with other delegates; • Considering ways of supporting SDI activity in the emerging economies of Africa and elsewhere; and • Determining the focus for the GSDI initiative in the period leading up to the next conference
